How to Create a Hygge Inspired Wedding Feast - with Studio81 Events
When our recommended supplier, Laura, founder of Studio81 Events, came to us with her vision for a Hygge inspired photo shoot, of course we welcomed her and a carefully selected group of suppliers into the Barns to make the vision a reality.
A Hygge Wedding Feast VISION
There is nothing I love more than a feast with friends and family - one that goes on for hours, beginning in the daylight and ending after the sun has set, without anyone even realising.
This was the vision for my ‘Hygge Wedding Feast’ styled shoot at Barns & Yard - taking inspiration from the Danish art of Hygge. Featuring bold and colourful tableware, textures of layered linen, eye catching candles and the warmth of floral centre pieces. Topped with a variety of delicious dishes placed around the table, giving everyone something to enjoy and your guests having no reason to leave!
When planning weddings, I always recommend allowing more time than you’d think necessary for your wedding breakfast. Couples are often surprised by this suggestion, but after months of planning and preparation for your wedding day, this is your time to savour - don’t rush any of it. The true concept of a Hygge wedding breakfast is coming together as a family - conversations, reminiscing, sharing stories of the bride and groom with people you only met an hour ago. Those are memories and moments to be cherished.
This feeling of warmth and comfort around the table is what I wanted to create in this shoot. With a contemporary edge to suit the style of the Barns and the suppliers involved.

Studio81 Events
I’m Laura Randles, founder of Studio81 Events, a wedding planning and styling company based in Worcestershire. With over 15 years experience planning weddings and events, there is nothing I love more than building relationships with my couples and suppliers and seeing months of planning come together on the day. It’s my absolute pleasure to be one of Barns & Yards’ preferred partners.
Blank canvas wedding venue
Barns & Yard is a luxury barn wedding venue surrounded by stunning views of the Malvern Hills. Every little detail has been carefully thought out by Lisi and Kate, making it the perfect blank canvas to create the wedding day you really want. I love the versatility that we’ve been able to achieve with each wedding I’ve had the pleasure of working on, thanks to the beautiful simplicity of the Barns and having worked with Lisi and Kate since they opened in 2019, I knew Barns & Yard would work perfectly for my Hygge inspired shoot.
Talking Tables
I combined long trestle tables with linen from 88 Events, to bring in the all important layering that’s so visual in the Hygge look. I then added oak, cross back chairs with natural linen pads, provided by the venue, which really added that rustic finish to the look.
Tipples provide a beautiful eclectic mix of tableware for hire - I absolutely love how their collection can be mixed and matched to bring in texture, colours and layering that comes with a Hygge inspired wedding breakfast. Their gold-rimmed, turquoise plates really lifted the overall look of the table.
Muted Florals
Jeni, of Jenny Fleur Flowers, answered my brief to a tee with her floral table centre pieces featuring muted tones of corals and peach, that complemented the warm blue and teal candles and tableware perfectly.
Love Letters to your Guests
When I was looking for stationery I knew I wanted it to be contemporary and have an informal feel to it. I had a vision of personal notes written from the couple to their guests. Junie, from Junie Poonie, didn’t disappoint. After talking through my ideas, she came back with exactly what I had envisaged. Encapsulating the Hygge style perfectly with her handwritten place cards, menus and signs.
Family Feasting Menu
No Hygge inspired feast would be complete without an array of mouth watering dishes. Rupert, and the team at a Rule of Tum, delivered an incredible feasting menu, with an emphasis on locally sourced and seasonal produce. Their menus and love of family style eating came through clearly in the food they provided. (it went down very well with everyone on the day too!) I always encourage my couples to choose food they love and I know this is key for the team at a Rule of Tum when planning the menus with their couples.
Picture perfect
To capture the look to share with you, I enlisted the creative talents of photographer, Chloe Field, who encapsulated the feeling of warmth and cosiness from the shoot, perfectly. I’ve worked with Chloe a number of times and her love of colour exudes in her photography - as well as her own energy and warmth - and the finished pictures really showcased the depths of colour we chose for the shoot.
This shoot was originally planned for March 2020, which of course had to be postponed until after lockdown restrictions had eased. The idea behind the shoot seemed more poignant once we finally got it together, not just a relief to be creative again, but to envisage a day where we can all sit together with loved ones, share a meal, toast the happy couple and look to the future!
Thank you to all the suppliers involved in making this happen and to Laura for bringing her vision to life at our Barns.
With love,
The Yard Girls xx
