Frequently Asked Questions

The Venue

What is the maximum capacity of the venue?

100 people during the day and 130 during the evening. We do not have a minimum guest policy.

Is it possible to hire individual barns?

We offer our couples exclusive use of the entire venue, so your booking include all of our spaces.

Is it possible to hire Barns & Yard just for the day and evening of my wedding?

Yes, it is! We offer a few midweek, One Yard Day Weddings, available on selected dates.

All our weekend bookings are from Friday to Sunday, in order to give our couples the feeling of exclusivity. Access on day one is from 1pm to allow time to decorate and arrange the barns as you wish, plan your photographs, settle into the cottages and spend time with your nearest and dearest preparing for the big day!  Our three day hire allows for a relaxed departure the morning after your wedding.

How many guests can you accommodate in the cottages and do we need to hire the cottages with the venue or is this optional?

All three cottages are included in your booking for two nights (with the exception of our One Yard Day wedding package). Our 3 cottages sleep 8 (+2 optional roll-away beds for children).

Do you include tables and chairs?

We include tables and chairs, and have a choice of round tables or rustic trestle tables and Cross Back Oak chairs.  Barns & Yard is also furnished with a lovely selection of occasional furniture both indoors and outside.

Do you have a PA system for background music/speeches?

Yes, you can connect to this using bluetooth for background music. We also have one fixed and two roaming microphones.

Do you have parking for our guests?

Yes, we can take up to 50 cars and two coaches using both the main and overflow carparks.

What time should our guests arrive and what time should carriages be booked for?

We suggest asking your guests to arrive approximately 20 minutes before the time of your Ceremony.  Barns & Yard weddings finish at Midnight on a Saturday and 11pm midweek (midweek extension until midnight may be possible by prior arrangement).  Taxis should be pre-booked for 11pm midweek and Midnight on a Saturday.

Can we use our own suppliers?

We have a great list of pre-approved and recommended suppliers.  However you are also welcome to choose your own suppliers, and we can supply the relevant checklists in order to facilitate this.  The only exception to this is Caterers and Bar service who must be our approved suppliers.

Catering and Bar

Do you have an in-house bar or can we provide our own drinks?

Your bar at Barns & Yard will be run by our bar partner "The Watering Hole Event Bars”.  They offer flexible bar options and competitively priced drinks packages,  and an option to provide your own table wine & fizz, with a service charge to cover chilling, serving staff, glassware etc.

Can we use external caterers or supply food ourselves?

We have a fantastic list of approved caterers for you to choose from, and are confident we have an option to suit every couple.  We only permit catering to be undertaken by our approved caterers, and all food must be supplied and served by the caterers.

Everything Else

Can we have candles in the Barns?

Although we have a no naked flame policy, we are able to make some exceptions to this, for example we can usually allow candles on the tables throughout the Wedding Breakfast.

Can we bring our own lawn games/activities?

Yes of course! We can also recommend some fun suppliers and we also have a table tennis table that you are welcome to use.

What are the local accommodation options?

We are fortunate to have a fantastic choice of accommodation options in the local area, and provide a list of recommendations to our booked couples.

Can our guests camp at the venue?

We do not have facilities on site, but there are great options nearby.

Do you have people to help us run the day?

Barns & Yard have a Venue Manager throughout your event to assist and ensure smooth running of the day. Our approved caterers all offer a Front of House Manager.  We can also recommend several fantastic Wedding Planners and On The Day Coordinators if you would like additional help.

Who moves the tables and chairs around?

Following your Wedding Breakfast, the Catering team, together with the Barns & Yard team, will move, clear and prepare the venue ready for your evening party.

How far in advance can I reserve my date?

We are currently taking bookings until the end of 2024, please email us to check availability.

Is there a church nearby?

Yes, we have three local churches.

Can we throw confetti?

Yes, we love a confetti shot too!  We ask that you choose only natural petals or water-soluble rice paper confetti.

Can we let off fireworks or Chinese lanterns?

No, due to residential housing and livestock these are not permitted.

Can we smoke?

We have a designated smoking area.  No smoking is permitted in the Courtyard or vicinity of the Tudor listed Barns.

Can our dog be part of the day?

Generally no, however we can make an exception for one well-behaved pooch during your ceremony if this is important to you! We have some lovely, local dog-minders on request.
