About the Place

We’re deeply in love with this place and with the history held within its walls. There’s been a dwelling on site here since the twelfth century, when it belonged to a woodsman of King Henry I. The barns and current hall date back to the reign of Henry VIII, and still retains its timber framing, ornate plasterwork and stone fireplaces.

The property has been in our hands and in our care for the last ten years, and we’ve carried out extensive and careful restoration to the house, grounds and barns to bring it back to its former glory, discovering hidden treasures, Victorian graffiti, and a whole load of new skills along the way.

The barns were in a terrible state of repair when we arrived on the scene, but as listed buildings, we knew they had good bones. We saw that there was life in them, and as the renovation progressed, we realised we had the opportunity to create something really special that could be shared with others, and become part of their stories, too. So, Barns & Yard was born.

About the People

I live in Hanley Hall with my husband Chris (whose clear head and steady hands have made lots of the renovation possible) our two kids and two dogs.

With Barns & Yard, my sister Kate and I are fulfilling a long-held dream of working together, and alongside a hand-selected team of experts, we’re delighted to be opening the Tudor barn, farm cottages and grounds of this historic hall to couples wanting a unique and special place to start their marriage adventure.

I’m an experienced graphic designer with a passion for art and what is probably fair to say an obsession with all things aesthetic. I love travelling to new places and soaking up the art and architecture, so sourcing, collecting and commissioning the contemporary design pieces and luxury touches for the barns and cottages has been a dream come true.

A Good Team

Whereas I focus on the heart and the spirit of a place – visualising its potential and the way it will look at its shining and polished best – my sister Kate is all about the bones. She’s immeasurably practical, knowledgeable and level headed, with the ability to see how to get from A to B, where B is the rustic and beautiful vision in my head! We make a good team.

We want this luxury barn venue to be more than just an empty space – it’s such a beautiful place and it deserves to be shared; to be decorated and adorned as you see fit; to be filled with love and life and laughter. It’s an enormous privilege to be able to play even a small part in the happiest day of someone’s life, and we can’t wait to hear all about your wedding plans.

To find out more about how your wedding at Barns & Yard might be, take a look at our Weddings page, and get in touch to request our brochure or to enquire about rates and availability.

We look forward to welcoming you to this truly special place.

We genuinely couldn’t have wished for a better team to work with, nothing was too much trouble and we so appreciated the amount of time, effort and detail put in to the planning of our wedding day – they had everything covered, things we hadn’t even considered!
